PCB Layout Designer

 (US Citizenship Required*)

Bloomington, MN



Join our team as a Layout Designer to create multilayer printed circuit board designs using Mentor Graphics tools per Electrical and Mechanical Engineering input in a highly structured development environment. The fabrication drawing package will be created per IPC and/or Mil spec.


  • Design detailed layouts and document printed circuit boards
  • Produce two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) CAD work product output for fabrication and assembly
  • Check drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standard engineering drafting practices and standards
  • May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage
  • Work under minimal supervision
  • Assist engineers in design and development of complex and detailed layouts of PCB
  • Participate in developing designs of new or modified high-density printed circuit boards
  • May define design standards and configurations
  • Work from preliminary schematics, part lists, and basic description of the board function, configuration, and arrangement as defined by engineering
  • Instruct drafter in the completion of drawings and specifications
  • May perform the checking of design layouts and detailed drawings


  • Experience designing high-count multilayer complex printed circuit boards
  • At least 8 years relevant experience with Mentor Graphics ECAD software.
  • At least 3 years’ experience specifically using the most recent and current Mentor Graphics tools:
    • DxDesigner/Expedition PCB, Autorouter, DMS and Drawing Editor
  • Well versed in Mil and IPC Standards.
  • Specific experience with Mentor Graphics VX2 PCB Layout Tool and Constraint Editor/Manager
  • Expedition PCB Autorouter
  • Valor Artwork checking tool
  • Teamcenter Archive tool
  • Distinct knowledge of material requirements, fabrication techniques, and manufacturability concepts
  • Distinct knowledge of design principles and techniques including computer aided design (CAD)
  • Distinct knowledge of the strategic CAD and file management tools
  • Demonstrates initiative, applies personal talent to practical solutions
  • Works within the trade space defined (cost/schedule/technology)
  • Able to accept and integrate constructive feedback
  • Able to weigh risks and make progress in the face of uncertainty
  • Willingly takes on problems and commits to solutions
  • Distinct written and verbal communications skills
  • I.D. (Certified Interconnect Designer) is a plus

 *US Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
