    Prototype Machinist/CNC Programmer

     (US Citizenship Required*)

    Responsibilities

    • Participate in concurrent engineering efforts through developing new concepts and techniques in the machining and fabrication of new products with close supervision
    • Work closely with, and take direction from, design engineers and manufacturing personnel to come up with creative and rapid design solutions
    • Follow through by implementing basic solutions for prototypes with machine tools and machining centers
    • Transform information from prints, written instructions, sketches and oral instructions into finished working mechanisms
    • Set up and operate all types of precision tool room equipment
    • Use precision measuring equipment
    • Machine to close tolerances and finish requirements
    • May specialize in precision sheet metal work or machine work
    • Fabricate basic tools required in the forming of sheet metal parts and assemblies
    • Fabricate all types of sheet metal parts with proficiency
    • Perform all necessary mathematical computations related to dimensions, tolerances, set-up and speeds and feeds of parts and machines
    • Interpret basic drawings and diagrams
    • Normally receive detailed instructions on work
    • Willing to learn from more experienced personnel

    Qualifications

    • Extensive experience in CNC mill programming, setup and operation required
    • Clear knowledge of machine shop, tool room practices and shop practices
    • Clear knowledge of the workability of ferrous, non-ferrous metals, plastics and other composite materials and their machining characteristics
    • Able to work from basic design information or guidance in order to fabricate/machine prototype concept/item
    • Able to use computer aided design (CAD) tools
    • Clear interpersonal skills
    • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Clear problem solving skills
    • Clear Time management skills
    • Ability to participate on cross-functional teams
    • Clear computer skills

    *US Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.

     

    Education and Experience:

    • A high school diploma or equivalent is required and a minimum of 7 years CNC related experience
    • Trade school training and completion of a formal or informal 4 year apprenticeship in an associated trade such as machining, tool and die making is preferred, plus a minimum of 2 years of extensive experience in a precision model or prototype shop operations is preferred.
    • In lieu of a degree or apprenticeship, directly related experience that would qualify the incumbent to satisfactorily perform the job duties
