    Software Engineer – Air and Missile Defense Planning

     (US Citizenship Required*)

    Fairfax, VA



    • Conduct or participate in the research, design, development, and integration of Air and Missile Defense (AMD) related software models and wargame engine.
    • Define and develop creative and innovative software architectures and solutions to address emerging challenges in systems-of-systems wargame integration.
    • Support development and integration of large-scale wargame engine for AMD planning.
    • Participate in a team environment to design, develop, enhance, and execute planning wargame engine in the AMD domain, including providing full life cycle support (requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing, and debugging).
    • Lead a small team of junior engine to meet program development goals.
    • Apply object-oriented design and development techniques primarily in the C++ programming language
    • Develop unit test software through both automated and manual testing techniques to produce algorithm results.
    • Analyze algorithm results to support verification & validation, regression testing, formal test events, and concept/feasibility studies.
    • Investigate and resolve problems related to performance, consistency, and reliability.
    • Produce documentation to capture requirements, technical concepts, software design, and user information.
    • Enhance, modify, and correct existing software.
    • Code, test, integrate and document software solutions.
    • Perform software requirements analysis; participate in research; design, develop, and test software and tools, including developing new work products or enhancing existing applications, systems or embedded products
    • Apply principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the development of software
    • Participate in internal review of software components and systems
    • Receive general instructions and guidance from immediate supervisor and work on problems with defined scope, schedule and expectations
    • Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained
    • Generally works within an identified work group and responsible for resolution of problems and issues of moderate scope and complexity
    • May provide work direction to other employees as a technical lead
    • Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause project delays or require the allocation of additional resources
    • Collaborate with project leaders and other professionals within Engineering; may work with organizations outside engineering or with external customers; build stable working relationships internally.
    • Travel may be required
    • Keep abreast of technology trends and champions new ideas and product and process improvements
    • Deliver presentations to peers and customers internal and external


    • Required – Active Secret security clearance. Candidates without active clearance will not be considered.
    • Experience with C++/Java - multi-processors/multi-threaded code.
    • Experience with Model analysis, wargame/assessment algorithms.
    • (Preferred) Experience developing software in a GNU/Linux environment
    • Experience with MATLAB programming
    • Familiarity with unit testing tools (e.g. Junit, Gtest, Gcov, Jacoco, and continuous integration software)
    • Strong knowledge of Trigonometry, Non-Euclidean Geometry, and Ballistic Trajectory Equations
    • Experience with mission planning
    • Professional and experienced understanding of software engineering concepts, principles, and theories and skilled at applying technical standards
    • Considerable knowledge of the software development process
    • Considerable ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle ever increasing responsibility and assignments with growing complexity
    • Shows initiative on assignments, and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Exercises independent judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
    • Considerable ability to be a team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success, meeting and exceeding personal and team commitments
    • Considerable knowledge of software tools supporting Integrated Development Environments (IDE), version control, defect reporting and scripting
    • Creative, innovative and responsible, and able to master considerable decision-making skills
    • Skilled at learning and applying company policies and procedures to resolve more complex issues
    • Considerable proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
    • Considerable written and verbal communications skills
    • Considerable ability to recognize and clearly report relevant information
    • Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Considerable ability to use the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.
