    Lead Display Software Engineer – Air & Missile Defense Planning

     (US Citizenship Required*)

    Fairfax, VA



    • Lead the MIPS software team for Database management and GUI development efforts.
    • Work with the program technical lead on define tasks, schedule, technical issues, and risk
    • Lead the software team to meet program milestones.
    • Enhance, modify, and correct existing software.
    • Code, test, integrate, and document software solutions
    • Conduct or participate in the research, design, development, and integration of Air and Missile Defense (AMD) related software models, databases and displays.
    • Define and develop creative and innovative software architectures and solutions to address emerging challenges in systems-of-systems integration.
    • Support development and integration of GUI screens and Databases.
    • Participate in a team environment to design, develop, and enhance, displays for the AMD domain, including providing full life cycle support (requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing, and debugging).
    • Apply object-oriented design and development techniques in the C++ and Java programming languages
    • Develop unit test software through both automated and manual testing techniques to very GUI functionality.
    • Analyze GUI test results to support verification & validation, regression testing, formal test events, and concept/feasibility studies.
    • Perform software requirements analysis; participate in research; design, develop, and tests software and tools, including developing new products or enhancing existing applications, systems or embedded products
    • Apply principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the development of complex software and architectures
    • Research and analyze data, such as customer design proposals, market trends, state of technology and industry, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Participate in internal review of software components and systems
    • Receive little instruction on day-to-day work
    • Define scope, schedule and expectations for the work they execute or lead
    • Independently determine approach to solutions
    • Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained
    • Contribute and account for completion of major programs and projects
    • Resolve significant, broad, complex, diverse problems and issues
    • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees and teams
    • Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant project delays or require the substantial allocation of additional resources
    • Collaborate with Engineering senior management and leadership; frequently work with organizations outside engineering or with external customers; build stable internal working relationships; network with senior internal and external personnel
    • Travel may be required
    • Investigate and resolve problems related to performance, consistency, and reliability.
    • Produce documentation to capture requirements, technical concepts, software design, and user information.
    • Deliver presentations to peers and customers internal and external


    • Required – Active Secret clearance. Candidates without active clearance will not be considered.
    • Experience with display design, development and integration
    • Experiences with C++ and JAVA software development for 3D displays
    • Experience with WWJ/3D GIS, NGA data sets, very strong Linux Skills
    • Experience with multi-threaded Java objects and GUI components
    • Experience with developing software for clients and servers
    • Experience with developing software for Windows, Solaris and Linux environments
    • Experience with mission planning


    • Experience with Digester, XML, SQL, JDBC, Perl, Bash, JBuilder, Eclipse, MySQL, PVCS, Sybase
    • A seasoned, experienced professional with a proficient understanding of software engineering concepts, principles, and theories and expert at applying technical standards and methodologies to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways
    • Capable of working on problems of diverse scope requiring extensive analysis of data and evaluation of a multitude of factors
    • Demonstrates proficient judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
    • Proficient knowledge of the software development process as well as software engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Proficient knowledge of other related engineering and support disciplines
    • Detailed and proficient knowledge of technology trends and champions new ideas and product and process improvements
    • Proficient knowledge of software tools supporting Integrated Development Environments (IDE), version control, defect reporting and scripting
    • Able to be creative, innovative and responsible, to master proficient decision-making skills, to multi-task, and to grasp and apply new information quickly
    • Proficient ability to handle significant responsibility, leadership and accountability while executing complex assignments; shows initiative on assignments, and professionally executes projects with little direction, or can provide direction and leadership to technical teams
    • Exercises independent judgment and sometimes defines new procedures and practices to improve team and company performance

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

    • Can provide technical leadership to an organization
    • Proficient in the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products

    *US Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.


    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
