    Advanced Optics Engineer

    (U.S. Citizenship Required*)

    Florham Park, NJ



    • Design, develop, build, and test systems & products based on optic, photonic and laser technologies
    • Interact with device, hardware & software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems; specifying, selecting and qualifying active & passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation
    • May provide recommendations for cost reduction efforts
    • Participate in electrical & optical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (optical loss, timing, power, etc.), design, integration, and verification of electrical components, equipment, and systems
    • Apply principles and techniques of Electrical & Optical Engineering
    • Perform root cause analysis for electrical & optical issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
    • Participate in design reviews of electrical & optical components, equipment & systems
    • Evaluate vendor capability to support product development
    • Apply a good understanding of the organizationally defined optical processes used throughout the lifecycle of the program or project
    • Support the generation of engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
    • Contribute to the research & analysis of data, such as customer design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Select components & equipment based on analysis of specifications & reliability


    • Required – able to obtain TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
    • Considerable use of optical and electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Considerable knowledge of telecommunication applications
    • Considerable knowledge of optical engineering processes
    • Keeps abreast of technology trends
    • Aware of business objective and Engineering role in achieving
    • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
    • Considerable knowledge of electrical engineering design tools
    • Considerable written and verbal communications skills
    • Understands and begins to apply basic project management principles including IMS, earned value, and score cards
    • Considerable ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering design

    *U.S. Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.


    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
