    Senior Optics Engineer 1

    (US Citizenship Required*)

    Florham Park, NJ



    • Design, develop, build, and test systems & products based on optic, photonic, and laser technologies
    • Interact with device, hardware and software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems; specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation
    • May provide recommendations for cost reduction efforts
    • Participate in electrical and optical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. optical loss, timing, power, etc.), design, integration, and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems
    • Apply principles and techniques of Electrical and Optical Engineering
    • Perform root cause analysis for electrical and optical issues, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results to formulate & implement solutions to issues
    • Participate in design reviews of electrical and optical components, equipment and systems
    • Evaluate vendor capability to support product development
    • Apply a good understanding of the organizationally defined optical processes used throughout the lifecycle of the program or project
    • Support generation of engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
    • Contribute to research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
    • Plan sub tasks for activities described above


    • Required – Able to obtain TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph within 24 months; active preferred.
    • Considerable use of optical and electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Considerable knowledge of telecommunication applications
    • Considerable knowledge of optical engineering processes
    • Keeps abreast of technology trends
    • Aware of business objective and Engineering role in achieving
    • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
    • Considerable knowledge of electrical engineering design tools
    • Considerable written and verbal communications skills
    • Understands and begins to apply basic project management principles including IMS, earned value, and score cards
    • Considerable ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering design

    *US Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.


    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus 2-5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree and 0-3 years of experience
