    EMI/TEMPEST Test Engineer

     (US Citizenship Required*)

    Responsibilities

    • Perform EMI and TEMPEST testing, provide design support and other related tasks for a wide variety of tactical communications systems and ruggedized communications and computer equipment for military applications.
    • TEMPEST Engineer tasks include:
      • Review customer requirement specifications for TEMPEST requirements for new product proposals.
      • Provide detailed, cost effective, TEMPEST design guidance required for compliance with TEMPEST standards.
      • Work closely with product development teams for qualification of products to NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92, CNSSAM TEMPEST 01-02, and CNSSAM TEMPEST/1-13.
      • Perform TEMPEST testing.
      • Troubleshoot problems as needed and recommend cost effective solutions with minimal design impact.
      • Prepare test reports as a CTP Level 1 and prepare Control Plans and Test Plans as a CTP Level II
    • EMI/EMC tasks include:
      • Review of customer requirement specifications for EMI/EMC requirements for new product proposals.
      • Participate in design reviews and provide detailed design guidance on filters, shielding of ventilation, gaskets, transient protection needs, cable shielding, etc.
      • Provide cost effective design guidance needed for compliance with military EMI/EMC standards.
      • Determine the need for transient protection for electromagnetic threats including HEMP, Lightning, MIL-STD-1275, Directed Energy weapons, etc.
      • Use Electromagnetic modeling tools such as FEKO in support of EMI/HEMP/Lightning design.
      • Recommend transient protection devices.
      • Perform EMI testing and troubleshoot EMI problems as needed and recommend cost effective solutions with minimal design impact.
      • Prepare EMI test plans and reports.
      • May function in a project leadership role where erroneous decisions or recommendations may have long-term effects and may affect the image of the company’s technological capability.

    Qualifications

    • Required – Able to obtain TS/SCI Clearance, with Polygraph.
    • Required – Certified TEMPEST Professional (CTP) Level I or Level II.
    • Experienced EMI/TEMPEST Test Engineer; strong background in EMI and TEMPEST with emphasis on testing.
    • Experience with High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) and Lightning is also desirable.
    • Products range from tabletop subsystems to large complex vehicular systems.
    • Able to provide detailed TEMPEST and EMI design guidance.
    • Perform testing in accordance with TEMPEST/1-92, CNSSAM TEMPEST 01-02 and MIL-STD-461.
    • Required – Certified TEMPEST Professional (CTP) Level I or Level II.
    • Familiar with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, EMI receivers, Spectrum and Network analyzers, etc.
    • Familiar with test equipment control programs such as HPVEE and/or TILE and EMC32.
    • Demonstrated mastery of practical engineering application
    • Familiar with military EMI/EMC standards including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, etc.

    *US Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.

     

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) and 10+ years of relevant experience; or Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience
    • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent related field, or the equivalent experience is required.
